Rob March developed the idea for GIGMATE during the Covid lockdown when live events were sorely missed, both personally and professionally. Recognising the increasing issues of loneliness and lack of meaningful connections exacerbated by the pandemic, Rob founded GIGMATE in 2022 to foster community and bring people together through a shared love of live music.

Based in North West, GIGMATE creates online communities where members can connect over mutual music tastes and find opportunities to attend gigs together in real life. With 9 million Britons reporting frequent feelings of loneliness and 40% of 16-24-year-olds often feeling lonely, GIGMATE aims to combat isolation and improve wellbeing by facilitating supportive connections through live events.

Rob believes GIGMATE can make a significant positive impact on societal challenges like loneliness. The GIGMATE app allows members to join “Music Tribes” based on their music preferences and engage with like-minded people online. GIGMATE then provides a matching service for people with shared musical interests to find partners or groups to experience live events together.

The recent launch of GIGMATE’s Android and iOS apps is an exciting milestone, delivering an improved user experience and additional functionality based on extensive research. Winning a 2023 Startup Award has been phenomenal for raising awareness of GIGMATE during these early stages.
