Climategames, the groundbreaking app that transforms exercise into environmental impact, secured the titles of Berkshire StartUp of the Year and the Overall Winner of the South East StartUp Awards 2023, pioneering the fusion of wellness and climate action
Martin Lacey and Kate Strong are passionate entrepreneurs on a mission to tackle climate change through innovative action. While swimming in the River Thames one day, Martin was struck with an idea to turn exercise into environmental impact. He envisioned an app that would allow people to log physical activities like walking, swimming, cycling and running, and in return fund critical climate initiatives. These include carbon removal or avoidance projects, kilograms of plastic removed from the ocean or trees being planted in reforestation sites. All projects are accredited by leading international standards bodies.
In 2021, Martin and Kate co-founded Climategames to bring this vision to life. Their mobile app rewards users with climate action for every activity they log, engaging people in environmental change through gaming and wellness. In just one year, Climategames has gained over 8,000 users across 120 countries and built a roster of corporate clients aiming to reach sustainability goals while supporting employee health.
Martin and Kate have ambitious plans for Climategames’ future. They intend to sign on more businesses and help elite athletes reduce their environmental footprint.
“We address two of the biggest needs for companies: employee wellbeing and climate action,”
Kate said.
“It’s only a matter of time before every company has to face their carbon emissions, and we’re poised to help through verified climate initiatives and the world’s leading platform for corporate climate and wellness programs.”
Winning the 2023 Startup Awards validated Martin and Kate’s mission and hard work.
